Does the average temperature actually ever occur?

While listening to the weather the other night, our weatherman stated that last year we were ten degrees above our average temperature, and this year we are ten degrees below it. Well, the average would be the mid point of those two, but are we ever actually at the average, or is our weather such that we always vary widely and the average never really occurs? In other words, if we are about equally above and below the average, it would never change, but we might never actually experience that “average” temperature. What do you think?

I think my head hurts……and it‘s not even 5 o’clock yet… 😉
